About Tammy

Tammy L. Stephens-Pisecco, Ph.D. is a mother, Gammy, stepmother, educator and evaluator.

Tammy grew up in the countryside of Frederick County; just outside of the small town of Winchester, Virginia.  One of four children, she was raised the middle child in a working class family where her father worked at a local rendering plant and her mother was a housekeeper.  Both parents dropped out of school in middle school.  Her maternal grandparents, played an integral part of Tammy’s childhood.  Tammy and her siblings spent much of their time at their grandparent’s home (pictured here).

Tammy married a Naval officer when she was 20-years-old.  This moved her away from the small town and onto various duty stations around the United States. The frequent relocations to new places broadened her views of the world and the people.

Tammy was the first person in her family to achieve a Master’s and a Doctorate degree.   Tammy has a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Counseling with a minor in Special Education; a Master’s in Special Education with a minor in Reading; and a Doctorate in Special Education with a minor in Assessment.  She has spent her professional life working with students with special needs.  Tammy worked as a Special education teacher, an Educational Diagnostician, a University Professor, and a Clinical Account Executive for a major publishing company.

In her spare time, when she is not hanging with her granddaughter, Tammy enjoys running, painting, and writing.
